Probably easiest way would be swap in XD column and whole wiring loom - I did it to my ZC but with XF column & wiring
I found that the bung on thew wiring loom where it goes through the firewall was the same size... |

The steering column in the XP has the worm shaft from the s/box going all the way up the column. The XF, does not. An XF steering box won't fit, but an XR to XY steering box will.

THANKS Chris That one I don't know, all you could do is compare them, side by side, might be a bit hard if you haven't got them there to look at either...LOL. Another thing too, the arch where the column meets the dash assembly, may be a different diameter, as in, the XP might be smaller than the XD-XF one.

I don't have an older Ford, but a mate of mine is building a '66 'Stang. I'll let you know if he needs things for it. It's the same stuff on it as an XP. He also has a 67 or 68 stang as well. One thing he is having trouble with is a ring gear for the flywheel. It a 170 engine, but has like a 200 flywheel with a very odd ring gear. It has 136 teeth and is an inbetween size. Normally they are 132 teeth ( 144 & 170 ), and 161 (?) for the 200 & 221 & 250.

Hi, the XW box won't fit. Two of the bolts will appear to be in the right place but their position on the box is different to the XP box in relation to the centre line of the shaft the pitman arm bolts onto. The XP pitman arm will not fit onto the XW box. The XW mounting bolts are larger than the XP bolts. I once fitted an XB column (honey pot and indicator section only) onto my XM coupe and wired up the headlight flasher etc. so it all worked like it was still in the XB it came from. I had to modify the XM column to take the XB parts, a bit of cutting and filing and a few trial fits.
Hope this helps Zed |
