When your talking about cars that old it comes down to condition and if its a "rare" car ie a police pursuit or the like.

dont know how better to explain it. are they still depreciating in value or not.

how long is a piece of string?

Cars are only worth what people are willing to pay for them - so things like body condition, interior condition and of course motor (choice) and condition pay a part.

*gets back in box*

Up until a few of years ago the XA/XB/XC sedans were as cheap as, even the V8's could be picked up roadworthy for $1000 to $1500. Now there prices are on the rise and some are over the top. XD's are heading the same way if its a factory V8 especially a manual then I doubt the prices will drop IMO.

thanks macca13 thats the sort of info i was after.

Basically im sick of forking out descent money for cars then modifying and maintaning them only to see them rapidly lose value.

Older cars can be safer bets as far as resale goes,xd's are overdue for some respect, and will start to go up I think.

Just going by Adelaide trading post prices, XD 6 cyl start around $300 about 750 for a good solid car, V8's I've seen for less that 500 up to about 2 k.

I test drove an xd about 3 months ago, 302 C4, on lpg, body ok but could do with paint, interior shot, 1 month rego - knocked him down from 850 to 600 bucks but never ended up buying it....

I wouldn't go for a XD personally, even though I've owned one for the past 12 years. It all depends on what you want out of a old skool car, is it going to be a daily driver or a weekender? If its going to be a weekender I'd go for a XA,B,C, up to 1976 that way you can put it on club rego and only pay a 3rd of the V8 rego every year and all you have to do is join a club to get it.

About 2 years ago XD's had hit rock bottom in their resale value. The V8's are starting to limb but the 6 cyls are still hovering around rock bottom for the time being. Once they go up in value then XE's and XF's will follow suit.
