depends how u treat them, usually if u grip the handle with both hands and not just one hand putting central pressure on it and not evenly spread with the use of 2 hands...

I found the ones at supercheap fairly good, well they've lasted longer then the repco ones and there better to use, they only move a little bit, unlike the others i've used which feel like your breaking it off before your opening it.

Just my opinion.

I dont seem to have the problem my XE has had a cracked handle for 11 months (ever since it was registered) and being a tradies car I probably open it 10 times a day. and my LTD (FC) has broken 1 in over 2 1/2 years which happens to be the LHF

I've had, 2 xa sedans, an xb sedan, 2 xc sedans, a tc cortina sedan, a 71 capri, an xe wagon and im curently on my 4th xf fairmont ghia, the only time i have ever had to replace a door handle was on the xe wagon cause the passenger door was sagging and the gf at the time was as thick as a brick. so as everyone is saying it just comes down to maintenance.

Most people fall into the trap of buying aftermarket handles, I have had one of these literally shatter in my hand, where as if you get them direct from Ford Spares, they don't break as easily.

Other things that contribute to the handle breaking besides the door dropping is that the mechanism inside the door (the part all the rods connect to) can become worn and when you pull up the handle on the outside, the lock on the inside get's pulled down slightly, half locking the door, so you have to pull the handle up even higher putting more and more stress on it.

Also, You should bend the rods on the inside of the doors so that you don't have to pull the handle up so far to unlatch the door.

I have written a full guide on how to replace and prevention methods here;

You win the prize for the best thread mine this week! Did you get gov't approval for a mine that big? 8-)

Just replace the hinges, make sure the doors aren't cracked, and adjust the doors correctly. I've had my XH for 13 years now, and once I fixed the cracked doors, and replaced the hinges - all done within the first 3 months - the original handles are still going fine. "Touches wood".. If it breaks tonight, I am totally blaming you. 8-)

Just as long as you have your doors aligned properly and locks lubed you will not have a problem i have just finished adjusting my doors for a roady and they have never been better just check as when i did this the door hing bolts were loose so it pays to check the hinge bolts just a little advice that i found

never had any issues with my XH.

bought my XF with a busted passenger side - snapped the rivet off trying to fix it.

in the process of the fix, I bent the lifting Wire in 2 right angles to shorten the distance the handle had to be pulled up in order to move the release pin in the door.

once i did this, you can open the door with one finger and moving the handle 1cm - really sensitive and no pressure needed.
