umm..... a V8 with an unleaded conversion?
as for the fan..... try replacing the fan speed resistor block in the airbox

is the resistor for the fan broken on high?
if you read the last street machine magazine, you'll see a turbo kit they have for the ford crossflow 6. it's around the $2k mark and comes complete with everything, brackets, etc.

Since the car is an XE it will have an alloy head which means it will ALREADY have hardened valve seats making it compatable for Unleaded fuel. Want more power convert it to carby, the efi system is hopeless.

Same as the VN ones they have but with brackets for the 250. And its only for carby motors. EFI is too much of a b**ch for plumbing. If you want to keep your EFI then you should go megasquirt. For a couple of hundred bucks you buy yourself a EFI computer in knockdown form and solder it up and wallah! Before you know it you have an efi system that is much better then the stocker and its programmable. Gazdaman is the man to talk to with these although he doesn't spend much time around here these days. He is on xfalcon.com more often but he has a different username. |

XE and leaded XF EFI do not have a knock sensor, unless he runs on PULP all the time it is likely to ping. (XE heads are prone to pinging anyway) If he was after more power he would be better to remove the vane airflow meter and if aftermarket ECU (one option is Mega Squirt as xcabbi said), or talk to XR9UTE about doing a later EEC conversion and Tweecer. Converting it to carby is for backwards people, that is something you would see at Mt Morgan QLD.

Are you sure that all alloy heads have hardened valve seats. My valve seats are so buggered in my XF I have bugger all dynmaic compression. The car almost stalls at the lights (auto in gear). This only slowly started to happen when I thought flashlube was a rip off and stopped using it. |

It not possible to cut a seat directly into a alloy head (too soft) so all alloy heads have hardenned valve seats usually made from Stelite. Just because they are hardenned doesn't mean they wont fail.

So in other words the days are numbered before I have to freshen my engine or it lets go completely.

Not all valve seat inserts are equal, some were just cast iron or mild steel inserts, some early alloy heads can not cope with unleaded fuel, whether it is petrol or LPG.
Stelite seats are expensive so most companies will find a way to reduce costs.

In my leaded EFI XF, i run her on morrys and optimax. If i run her on unleaded it's like, shooting some one in the foot then making them run. The Bosch Jettronic isn't so bad, once you get to know it. Mine goes alright, and all I did is replace a few things, remove a few things, and add a few things.
A pod air filter positioned in a good spot and extactors make a big difference, I felt a massive low end torque increase when i put a pod on mine. And removing a few things which don't need to be there which need putting back at rego time. |

Youve got an XF right Jim? XE's had the Bosch Jetronic EFI. XF's had the very first version EEC4. The detroit reject, and my what a shocking EFI it was. The leadeds run no knock sensor, No O2 sensor, No closed loop control (unless they do that from the VAT/VAF). Its all done from fuel Map's, Ignition is fixed though you can adjust it manually but it won't retard if the car pings like in a knock sensor equipped car. The only sensors that serve some function are the Coolant temp sensor, which is only good for early morning warmup and to display coolant temp on the dash. Apart from that it serves f**k all purpose. After that its just the TPS and VAT/VAF. And if you have a shoddy VAT/VAF you can forget about having some idle quality.
