Just wanted a general idea on how easy this job is. I don't have an engine crane or much of the really hardcore tools, but I've got pretty much everything else (spanners, sockets, torque wrench etc, vodka).
My XF is loosing oil, I've been told several things, its burning oil, its loosing it under pressure on the highway. Sounds likely because the bloke is a ford spare parts worker who says he used to own an xf did the same thing. There is also oil under the back towards gearbox that is always there but doesn't drip onto driveway etc. I have a gregory's or haynes or something, so really I think I just need a quick run down on the process, whats involved and tricks etc. I want to do it this weekend and well as a oil/filter change. |

Well I'm not sure if it is burning oil, I am loosing oil, but there is wet fresh looking oil on the underside of the engine near the gearbox.
What do I need to take the flywheel off? My Mini needs a special tool, does this? |

How much oil are you losing? If its noticeable, and its not dripping, its probably not coming from the main seal?

Yeh, well atm I'm doing regular trip out of town for 200km's or so. And I only topped it up not long ago (2 weeks maybe) and now its back down to the fill mark.

falcons tend to use oil if they are overdue for service and if the oil at the gearbox isn't dripping on the ground it's really not worth fixing
