Hey Guys,
My XF GHIA hasn't been driven for 3 months, yesterday I charged the battery up & kicked it in the guts, she started up fine & idle'd for a few minutes, I went inside to get my wallet so I could go put some gas in it & it king revved as hard as it could, I ran out & switched it off, had a quick look at the accelerator cable & it seemed ok so I started it up again & started to drive to the servo & as I was crawling over a speed hump it accelerated to 1/4 throttle by itself (the accelerator pedal moved) but backed off to idle when I pressed the brake & kept doing this.. I headed home real quick & put it into Park & idled it for a few seconds & it revved as hard as it could again. It was getting dark so I just left it. I was going to lube the Accelerator Cable tonight & see if that helped but I've got a bad Cold today so didn't feel like going outside after work. Any idea's of what else it could be?

I was thinking that, it does have Cruise but it's never worked.. But cruise wouldn't actually pull the Accelerator Cable would it? I've only used cruise in E Series onwards..

the cruise controll is worked by cable on the trottle Body, so yeah, you would feel the pedal being 'pulled' down as if you was pushing the pedal yourself..
thats the onlyt hing i can think of that would cause this problem for you... hope that helps

cruise is not supposed to activate under 50kmh as far as I am aware but maybe having the battery slow discharge over the last few months has "confused it". I would try diconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes to reset the ecu etc and see if that works perhaps

The ECU would of reset when I took the Battery out to recharge, but I'll try resetting it again, can't hurt..

Timing might be out causing a warm idle overrun condition? whenever mine was warm If I put it into neutral it would rev to around 3000rpm. ISC could also be sticking. Can't rmember if XF's had an ISC though.

Nah I don't think it is, I've lubed the Accelerator Cable, if it was sticking it wouldn't cut out when I put my foot on the Brake, I'm convinced its the Cruise Control..

Don't think so, because it can idle fine for 2-3 minutes then it rev's it guts off..
