gday all
just brought myself an 1990 XF panelvan im in the process of fixing up all the rust now, just wondering if anyone chould tell me a few things firstly i have no idea about the engine or trans the engine code is N and the trans is R im guessing this is a 3 speed trans with the 3.3 motor? only reason i say this is becuse the old girl is absolutley gutless now i understand theres 2 tonnes of car,but trucks are getting me and it coughs and splutters at any sighn of sticking your boot into it. just to rectifiy this i was wondering if anyone chould tell me the difficulty in dropping a 302 into the old beast. will the trans bolt up?,and the mounts drop straight in basically is it doable? cheeres |

To drop a V8 into it you need to get it engineered and go through a lot of s**t.
I suggest getting a 4.1lt motor slightly work it and bang that in for a quater to half the money of the V8. You could even do a manual conversion for a bit more omph also. |

Externally the 3.3 and the 4.1 are the same engine the main difference is the crank and a lot more guts

Yep. 3.3's have different crank, rods, & pistons for starters.

If your fitting a Cleveland, the only problem will be the heater box pipes, which aren't that big a deal. You just turn the core around inside the heater box and the pipes come out above the rocker cover. Everything else is factory parts (engine mounts, g/box mounts, tailshaft, etc) |

Ive never heard of a factory v8 coming out in the XF since they dropped it at the end of the XE model. Wake up if it did not come out with that motor you need to get it engineered, thats the law. |

I've got an XF ute with a Cleveland in it, and it's registered in Qld with no mod plate needed, as it used XD/XE Cleveland engine mounts, and everything bolted straight in. The only issue you will probably have is emmisions, but mines and early model XF so it didn't matter. But as for it bolting it in, it's a simple job.

It's proberly a XE with XF front end on it. lol Trust me if it did not come out with that type of motor in it you need a engineers certificate no if's but's about it. |

mate they have recently changed the rules, u will have to look up the exact rulings but u are now aloud to have a v8 in an xf legally without a vass certificte, u do however need to have the car fitted with all the xe v8 gear and also a catalyctic convertor.

its true..... so wake up... haha wtf? people have been putting v8's in xf's for years. Even injected motors out of el's.... Licencing is never realy an issue if its done well and follows emissions and saftey.
