modifying a 92 panel van starting with tidying up engine bay. already removed lots of unnessasary gear looking good. the next thing i want to remove is the radator shrowd.
will this cause problems with the heating system ? what is its actual purpose ? i notice a lot of custom cars have had this item removed.

it shouldnt make any diff to heating system but may cause the car to get hot on hot days in traffic, its purpose is to draw air in through the whole surface of the radiator, without it , the air drawn through when sitting in traffic is only the diameter of you fan plus a bit more makeing the rad less efficent

Cheers
i did actually meen the cooling system, i think ur reasoning would be corect. may be even beter cooling when moving because of the less restriction, but hotter in trafic as the channeling efect as u describe would be reduced

Just a thought however, the shroud is also a safety thing. My XE got knocked back for rego because it didnt have one..... This was NSW

They would tidy it up nicely |

as what has been said before, removing the shroud will effect the cooling capacity as the fan won't be drawing the air across the entire radiator, only directly through the fan (as stated before)
twin thermo's - clean looking and very practical.

Good onya mate! Someones actually fixing up a panelvan. Ive got a XG Van with a few mods and its a great first car. Only problem is the barndoor latch is stuffed and needs a new one so the door doesnt open at the moment. What else are you planning to do to it?
