XF S-Pac Bar Graph Fuel Gauge. Old one was playing up. Was reading "correct contents" but would go black, flicker, flash empty - then go back to correct contents etc. Bought another cluster on e-bay and swapped over the module. All is working fine except the gauge now reads about 1/3 full when it is EMPTY. Reads full of course when it is full. Thought the economy had improved a bit till run out of petrol on the freeway. Is there any calibration adjustment anywhere?? BTW this is a wagon if it makes any difference??

Have been told that these guages are self calibrating and that once the tank has been filled two or three times the gauge takes it as full and sets the empty point. Had a look at the old cluster module and with the assistance of an electronics engineer could not accredit this module with that ability. Put in another sender unit and from an empty tank put in 10lt at a time until full. Gauge read FULL. Syphoned out 20lt and still read FULL. Syphoned out another 20lt and the gauge read one sector of the bar graph over 1/2 full. "That means that the tank holds about 90lt??? Ha Ha. Still looking for another cluster module?? Any other thoughts anyone.....

XF ghias and Zl 'lanes and FE LTD's all had the 85 L fuel tank.
Optional on other sedans for long range purposes or the EFI engine option was selected then the big fuel tank went with it.

nope, 80L, and if you got 80L in it, think yourself lucky that you made it into the servo

I have an 1985 XF Ghia specification sheet and showroom brochure clearly states an 85 Litre tank - but whatever mate, its a big tank. I got 85L into my ZK classic once.

Thanks Guys. I will keep monitoring it (with a spare drum of fuel in the back). I am going to fill it up at the pump next time as soon as it shows half full and see what the pump says is half a tank

My XF also blacks out etc. and has been through phases of very erroneous fuel readouts that seem to self-correct after a bit. I think the reason they black out is because of the button used to toggle between oil/voltage and fuel/temp. This presses direct on the solder track and cracks it. This is only a theory that I haven't checked as I have been too lazy to remove the unit. Since you have the unit out already I would suggest taking a look at this area of the circuitry and if it is cracked - solder it back up and put the original back. I think the guage is dependent on a resistor to calibrate the voltage from the sender, so if you have a unit from a sedan and the wagon has a bigger tank, you may have problems.
