driving the xf the other night the gears got buggerd some how. lost 2nd gear in the 3 speed auto.

had to drive home doing about 40kmph.

anyway checked the fluid and it was probly just a little bit above the full line so that should be fine.

anyway took it for a drive yesterday and it went through the gears fine.

what could be wrong, its only a bunky type car so i dont wana spend any/much money on it.

would it be fine to just leave or is there somthing i can check and what could the cause of this problem be?

Did it rev out when you tried to engage second (kind of like bumping the stick into neutral) or did it just hold first gear. If it just held first it could be a frayed kick down cable that has cought on the inside of the tube and it is stuck as if you have your throttle pedal flat to the floor.

yah if i manually changed it into 2nd it would just rev like neutral.
in drive it would just hang in first and rev out.

pitty your in perth,, my 3spd is coming out tonight.. would have been happy to give it away for nuthing.. but the postage prrobably wouldnt be worth it..

just grab one from a wrecker.. or perhaps a 4spd manual? cheaper than a 5 and still better than a 3spd auto
