Hi Guys, sorta new to this forum and new to the world of Fords and utes..
I have a 90 XF Ute, not that its not obvious, and want to do it up as a daily to run on Gas.. The ute is an auto with column select and has no power steering, but has air con and is carbi. The steering is as heavy as anything, is this normal? Are there other alternatives? Is it possible to change from column select to down on the floor without any major hassle, ie, is it a bolt straight in affair? I will be changing from bench seat to bucket seats. How has most people lowered the back of their utes? using lowering blocks? Thats all I can think of at the moment. Thanks for your help guys.. Alex

The steering will feel heavy compared to power steer cars,
as for the T bar you will need the floor hump the T bar itself the linkage from the gearbox to T bar and an auto console so you have your dial(PRND21). You will need to cut a hole in the floor for the T bar and you will also need to turn the linkage on the gearbox upside down as well as fit the bucket seats so that your console will fit. But theres more. You will also need to either secure the original column linkage or remove it (prefered) so as it doesnot move and prevnt you from locking the steering and removing your key from the ignition. I hope that I havent scared you off Regards Rod

Hey Rod,
thanks for that. Not scared at all, I know I have some work to do.. its either do that, or get a manual box, but auto would be nice for a little while.. I know I'm gonna spend a bit of $$$ to get it up and running, or a bit of time.. with the steering, do you suggest power steering even tho they have alot of problems.. Alex

Totaly recomend power steer
I had a blowout at 160kph in my HG thank god iI had the whole road to myself, I also had a blow out in my XC towing 2 tonne of trailer this one was easy to control, guess wich one had power steer? For the best prices on this stuff you should call the local car removal bloke they are cheap and usually fairly honest as they want your buisness. and will also be full of the correct advise. Regards Rod

Regards Rod To be honest, I don't understand what you mean.. I've had cars with no power steering in the past and haven't been a problem.. and the local car removal bloke? do you mean a wrecker? Alex
