well i have been looking for a project car for a few months now and i been thinking. The ute i got has little rust. Its not that bad so why not try get an 8 into it.
What would i have to do on the legal side of things? Eg do i have to get it engineered or can i just slap it in and go over the pits?? I also thought i might just keep working on it and get a v8 into it and get my old wrecker boss to make it a XE ute.

as said in your other thread, your better off gettin an XD or XE and putting the XF front end onto it if you dead set on going V8 into an XF, and if you have to modify the firewall to make it fit you will require an engeneers cert. (excuse the shocking spelling)

i had a 1990 model xf ute turn up at work the other day with a clebo in it. it had a top loader behind it there had been some bits welded in to mount the clutch master, and the pedal box had been changed to a hydraulic one. engine mounts wise, it just had v8 mounts in the usual position. auto would save some rooting around. have you considered putting in an efi windsor ? would fit real easy. don't weigh a metric ton like a cleveland. bit more engine bay space too. might be easier to engineer putting in a motor newer than the car. didn't look at the heater hose setup, so can't comment there.

The reason for doing up an older car is so that i dont have all the computers and it was realy easy...you know pop the hood and see 4 things on the fan belt. harmonic balencer, alternator, a/c, and water pump.

The heater pipes come out right behind the left cyl head on XF with V8.
In QLD if you put older engine in later car, it must run on LPgas only. I fitted a 307 Chev (circa 1968) V8 into a Toyota Surf turbo diesel auto, and was fine to do, so long as it ran on LPG only. The box behind the chev was a Toyota Dyna 4X4 truck box. The owner is very happy with it.
