Anyone repaired a faulty odometer, the speedo is ok but odometer and trip meter not counting kilometres, not working.

Im guessing a failed gear in the speedo head. Any pics and info appreciated.

Is it a standard size gear that fails or are they different from car to car??

Your pictures dont open Mad.
Yes what usually happens is that there are 2 gears on the side of the odometer mechanism. A large and a small gear.
Usually the smaller one always breaks a tooth and its all over. Occasionally the larger gear underneath does the same with same result.
To get to it you need to remove the cluster , open the glass from the cluster , remove the speedo needle and speedo plate screws and remove the main counter module and disassemble.
If you don't have patience they are fiddly work.
I believe the gears are all the same through out the earlier Falcons and Commodores of early 90s.
Speedo places charge a bomb to do this also. Ive rung around.

You can buy the odometer repair kit on Ebay, like 93EB said there's two cogs and only takes one tooth to break to stop it from working, but I've done this repair for mates before who broke it again within a week by resetting it whilst driving which you can't do,car has to be stationary to reset.

File comment: This is the part 93EB mentioned that needs to be removed to get to the cogs.

I got the gears from the link in Mads top suggestion.
The yellow gear to use will require you break of your old gear from the back of the grey disc.
You then get nippers and cut the 3 nipples of the grey disc of, and glue the new gear onto it.
You will know what I mean when you do it
Then reassemble.

Yep either one.
I used the gear that you glue on. Was pretty easy besides all the plastics on the housing going brittle and snapping.
Ideally i could do with a speedo housing to replace mine lol.
