The old XG finally gave out last week (thought it was just a head gasket). I removed the head and found 3 cracks and heaps of corrosion. The block however looks pretty good.
First thought was do an Au donk conversion however both time and cash are short right now so I reckon ill opt for just a new head as I need some wheels again soon.
My question is if I cannot find a XG head quickly what other models will the head go straight on without any modification?

Any E-seies head eb/ed/ef will work,if you're lucky you may find a tickford head.

Thanks mate I'll ring a blokes on Monday and see what they have got.

I did a fair bit of looking around on yesterday, went around a heap of wrecking yards and made a heap of phone calls, but no joy. Either they have engines but don't want to break the head from the block only want to sell whole engines or whole cars.

I found an EL 1997 falcon that I can have the head off, but it looks very different from my engine. Just wondering if an EL head will go straight onto the XG or is it only earlier E series

the numbers off my old head are 94AB with a little 9 below it and the EL head has the same numbers 94AB but with a little 12 below it.

Hey mate, that el head will work. Even if its a late model el head which has a revised valve train ( 1.8 ratio rockers compared to 2.1 on earlier ) . None of the valvetrain or cam are interchangable between the 2 so just get a complete head. Anything cast 88da thru to 96aa will have the earlier valvetrain, late model el heads ha e au falcon casting numbers.
Fit an mls head gasket and new head bolts as they are torque to yeild and are once use only.
