I need to replace the cog in the odometer of my XG Pano. Any one tell where to get cog from? whether there are different types I.E Gear teeth? and is it simple to change over?

Any help appreciated..
Mick.

Paulmac and BenJ used to sell them on here. Paulmac's local to you, so probably worth a PM to find out.

ive replaced 1 in my xf. went down to local wreckers and pulled the instruments out then the gear out myself. l looked for a dash with a reading on the trip meter so i knew it worked.. because they are gear driven, if u reset the trip meter while driving it makes the mechanism/drive stop and weakest part breaks (the cog) as the speedo is still turning. took around 1/2 hour to remove and replace. basic stuff

Hi There,
I had a similar problem with my odometer. I have an XG Spack Ute and the odometer stopped working at 170K. I found it difficult to find spare parts (checked Ford, Repco, Ebay, etc). I even purchased an EB Spack instrument cluster to swap over the speedo's. While the EB unit worked OK, for some reason it did not work when I swapped over the parts in the XG unit. I ended up finding Howards Instruments in Melbourne. They were great, fixing it on the same day for $95, and I didn't have to muck around with adjusting the distance meter either.
see WEB address below for Howards.

http://www.howardinstruments.com.au/main.html

Given the hassel with dealing with Ebay etc, $95 was great value. They also do courier pick up and delivery. Did you look for an authorised VDO dealer? If you have one local, they should be able to fix it!

Cheers,
Steve.

PS. If you are keen on an EB Spack instrumnet cluster, I still have the unit I bought. Let me know if you are interested, and I have pic's!

My ED's odometre just stopped as well. Exactly what is this cog I need to buy and where does it go?

Edit: Just did a seach (should have done it to begin with!). http://www.fordmods.com/fs-nsw-odometer-cluster-gear-e-series-t61267.html - I'm guessing its one of those, is that bloke still selling them does anyone know?

I have a cog for my XG for sale on Ebay at the moment, along with the owners manual. Item 190323059244. At this stage I can't sell them separately, but may do depending if the winning buyer only wants the manual.

If you have some time it is not difficult to change.

Hey mate, In my xf and now xg falcon, my odomotor cogs have lost teeth almost 3 times now. Its a pretty simple job to replace. Any eb-ed has the same little cog that turns the odometer. The little white creamy coloured one that sits on the grey circle with the black cog on the back. All you need to do is get a speedo from any of these cars and take the instrument cluster apart and then pull out the speedo. Then undo the screws on the side of the magnetic motor thing. Pull out the grey circle with the cogs on it and put it in your old odometer/speedo. Works like a treat.

OR just put in the new speedo unit from any eb-ed. I just swap the cog so i can use my original odometer.

I think they cost like $16 bucks for the speedo and if your lucky it might even have less km's on it :P
