Hi everyone,
I need some advice with the mods I'm completing with my XG Ute. I am installing a series 2 AU motor into the ute and everything is going by the book (kinda) except now I've hit a snag with the air conditioning compressor. I didn't read the tech document fully (typical male) and I thought I could bolt an EL a/c compressor onto the motor and it would be all sweet, but no. It doesn't line up properly with the other pulleys. I really don't want to use the XG accessories on the AU motor because I think the AU serpentine setup is far neater. So my question is, Can the A/C Compressor on an AU be used with the XG A/C system. The obvious changes would be to get hoses with the correct fittings to bolt into the XG A/C system but will the compressor work? Thanks!! |

the XH used a differant tensioner to the EF/EL/AU style & i think the aircon base bracket is differant between the XH - EF/EL/AU. i do have the XH aircon bracket here & a AU1 bracket to compare. are you using the AU intake?

Yes, I'm using the BBM. I wonder why the set up was different on the XH? So if I use the XH tensioner and a/c bracket, will the power steering pulley and alternator line up properly?

the XH was differant [except the XH XR6] due to the XH still using the EA-ED intake. don't know re tensioner/bracket as i havn't changed it over on my EL motor to see if i can do it/use it. other than modifing the XG/AU aircon lines .... i'm no help sorry

I have fitted the AU engine in both my XH (log intake) and EL (BBM intake) and I can say that with the BBM, the AU tensioner was fine with the EL a/c pump. Does the XG use a serpentine belt? If so, with a bit of fiddling, you should be able to fit your existing a/c pump... If not, maybe look at an ED or XH pump, and see if it fits your lines, rather than have custom lines made up.
Don't forget you need a BA alternator, with the two-pin plug. It will bolt up to the AU engine, and plug into the earlier model wiring, if you are doing it that way. Hope this helps.

Hi mate,no you can't use the XG a/c pump without changing everything on the front of the engine (XG belt set up is same as the EB/ED but AU or EL a/c pump should be fine but you will have to get some lines made to suit though

Thanks guys. Think I'll probably end up using the AU compressor and getting lines made to suit. I've tried fitting an EF compressor but it just doesn't line up properly. I figure at the end of the day it's just an A/C compressor like many others... What could go wrong!

I cant remember exactly what I did, but I was able to use the XH & EL a/c pumps on both AU engine conversions. I do remember the XH needed a longer belt, but I think the EL went together pretty easily. Maybe the spacers between the block and pump were shortened a bit? Too many brain cells sacrificed since then...

XH longer belt? pretty sure out of the AU & XH belts here the XH is slightly shorter [not a great deal]. |
