will be putting putting an ef xr6 5speed box in the xg ute and iv got no problems with getting it in i just need to know what drive shaft will i need to fit as im pretty sure the auto shaft will be to long
so any one know what the drive shaft size difference and also what drive shaft will i need as i have the ef manual but from sedan thanks |

Yes, you can use auto driveshaft with the manual 'box as long as you keep the LWB shafts with the LWB cars (utes, wagons and fairlanes) and the SWB shafts with the SWB cars (Falcon Sedans).

some ford driver wrote: are you sure guys as manual gearbox is longer than auto i think there is a difference between the 2 when you stand them side by side, and its only a few mm on the gearbox end, but in saying that they are interchangable and it makes no difference which one you use, when i stood my manual one up against an auto one it was bigger on the gearbox side, but literally by a few mm. nothing to brag about

Ford list the same part # for both shafts.

dono why mine were both different, the ends looked different too,maybe one had been refurbished and had a new end on it

Remember some of them had a big balancer and some didn't... They could be different lengths by a few mm.
And yes, I too have had the same driveshaft behind the auto, did T5 conversion and kept same driveshaft. Until the gearbox blew. Replaced gearbox and drove car about 10km (half way home and then straight back to workshop with pit) as realised that driving the old gearbox with no rear bearings at around 200km/h had bent the driveshaft. Replaced driveshaft - And yes, it was another long wheelbase alloy one. And yes, it did fit too (funny that). And then discovered that the bent driveshaft had ruined the seal at the pinion of the converted sedan diff in the wagon. So now that has been changed too. Currently changing the pinion angle a little to compensate for lowering again. To cut a long and very interesting story off short of its climax, do not drive crappy blown up T5 with only three gears at anything over 90kmh. The damage just goes on and on and on..... |

nice then ill change the box over this weekend and use the auto xg shaft,i didnt want to fit that heavy manual box then have to take it out due to shaft size difference
