Hey all,
I am on my second XH. This one has the outback tyres and is a 1 tonner. I went through a puddle the other day, water everywhere and it started spitting and f@rt. My previous one never did this Anyone have any ideas?

probably got the distributor wet,
also watch out that the drain under the front windscreen isnt rusted out, as my mates dads is rusted out and hes had problems where every time it rains he frys a body control module or ecu , and the mechanic charges him $1000 every time to fix it  eventually he just filled the holes up with liquid nails lol

Is there anything I can do about keeping the coil dry? It seems strange that it happened on this one. Are there different models or part numbers for the coil? cheers

no different coil, you can move it higher or where its less likely to get wet, but the distributor will always be in the same spot and usually when it gets wet you have problems

You might be able to make up some sort of plastic or metal splash gaurd and put it around the dissy, or under the whole engine.

I used to have the same problem with my XG, changed the distributor and cap and havent had a drama since. Water was getting into the cap and causing all the problems, if you let it dry out and its fine then i would recommend a replacement dissy.

Hi,
Have a good look at the Dissy cap and Leads. If any metal looks corroded it will absorb moisture and go high resistance. You only need a humid day for it to splutter and miss. I found this issue years ago with a Jap car, the Dissy had aluminium contacts and water would sit where the leads go in the top. Brass contacts on the leads and that was it. Changed and all good.
