I tried the search function, but maybe I was being too vague.
Anyway, we scored an XH ute very cheap, 5 speed on gas, etc. It does not have any keys. Obviously, the door locks wont be a big issue, but I'm not to sure what to do about the ignition. I have a full set of door locks and ignition switch out of an ED (?), but I'm not sure if they will fit. I may have an EL barrel and key, will that fit? Also, what do I have to do with regards to the smartlock? I understand there is a "learning" procedure? It is a '96 XH, not sure about the rest yet, will know more saturday. Cheers. P.S. Now I have a T5 and all the bits for my ute.

Thanks Ash, I figured you would know.
If I cant get the lock out without the key, can I fit another column? Is the XH column the same as any of the E-series? Looks like EF, but I don't have one. Would EL fit?

Cheers Ash, I understand what you mean.
Is it best to remove the column to do this, or can you get to the bolts by just dropping the column?

Leave the column bolted up and use a hammer and chisel or punch to unscrew the bolts and replace the whole assembly. Replace with umbrako or get the right ones from ford that snap off, they are not expensive.
You need the key to turn to acc to remove just the barrel. |

Thanks guys. I will get the cold chisel out and attack it on saturday.
I'll let you all know how it goes. Next question. Is the rear main seal in the 4.0 the same as a 5.0? I am asking because I have a Felpro 5.0 (p/n 2922RS) rear main at home, and it looks very similar to the 4.0 one. I will replace the rear main in both cars whilst I have the boxes out, so it would be good if I could use the one I have.

Mate
The best way to remove the old lock barrel is to centre punch bolt head and either drill bolt head out or use a smaller drill and fit a ezyout and remove the bolt, cold chiseland hammer maybe messy goodluck gassa

I don't think you would be able to get a drill in there to drill a hole. Once you get the bolt turning it comes out easily. |

Thanks guys, I used the punch method and all worked well. I replaced the bolts with standard bolts and washers. You wont see it once the plastics go back on, so who cares.....
I had to do the smartlock learning routine, but once that was done, all was hunky dory.

Yeah, cool. Now I just gotta get it running. Any experience with Tickford LPG systems?

You lost me already, Ash. Ha Ha
I think I will just try and get it running on fuel first, and worry about the LPG later. The tank is 4 1/2 years out of date, so it will have to be re-certified or replaced anyway. Just a side note, I cant believe how small the LPG ring is, in front of the throttle body. It must be about 40mm diameter! Very restrictive.
