Bought an 96 XH Longreach a few months back, at the time I bought it did have some minor problems with closing the drivers side door, now it's a daily struggle. When I close the door it's not grabbing and sealing. What's to be done?

Also I have the common problem with the highbeams, flickering and shutting off completely. Not terribly helpful driving up the hills in the middle of the night in the bloody rain. I saw an older post about it and it was suggested to check or replace the circuit breaker? Was that a comfirmed fix?

Oh and one last thing, my brother inlaw trying to sell some stock BWM wheels. My wheels are rooted and need replacing, what are the chances the pcd's are the same? Haven't had a chance to check. They are both 5 nuts, fingers crossed.

Cheers.

for the door you need to find a xh door latch. and doing that is usually very very hard so if you can get some then buy more then one. the problem is they are a very s**t design and the people that made them decided to stop so they are still breaking and no one is making any more.
and its a pain in the a** the change them as they are internal and if you have big hands it will be hard.
and i think you may have a problem with the offset with the bmw rims.
btw they have to be 5x114.3 with an offset of 6+

Off to the wreckers then I spose, fingers crossed they'll have something.

Eh, thought it would be worth while having a punt over the wheels, save a few bucks haha.

Thanks mate.

yeah that would be your best bet.
the wheels may fit but if you are going to try do it on the front.

I had door issues on both sides of my xh but the drivers side worse.

Common problem is the hinge pins. There an x-series pin and most x-series suffer for them. The plastic bush flogs out and the doors drop.

Initially I though that was the problem on mine. The doors on mine actually cracked though. The sheat metal had cracked above and below the hinge mounts on the doors. again this causes the doors to drop.

I doubt its the latch, you mentioned it's squeling so I would say hinges. Try spray some wd40 on the hinges and lifting the door slightly to close it.

but if it is xh's take el latches, dime a dozen at most wreckers

When ya go to the wreaker.....

Make sure you get a latch from a door, which has a door knob, and a key on the outside, as the others will fit, but doesn't have the linkages.
i.e. nothing to connect the rod from your key lock to, or nothing to connect the rod from the inside door knob to.

But that won't fix the problem if the doors dropped, take it to a panel beater whos done them before. My drivers has been welded up, and is now as good as new.

But yeah, s**t doors

Yes, I have raped an ef/el for parts for the door latch mechanism.
If the door has dropped, you can still but brand new lower hingers from ford, not too exxy IIRC. Easier than the pin kit, especially for newbies. 8-)

For the high beam, check the relay in the engine bay near the battery. Not sure which one it is so just clean them all. If it is dirty or has corroded pins it can cause them to not work. I believe high current relays in particular need clean connections.

I did this to a workmates car a few days ago and fixed his high beams. If you drive dirt roads, which you might with a bullbar that big, it happens.

And when you get new latches, don't let people slam your doors. Drives me nuts given how hard it was to get new latches for my XH. Again, dirt won't help so keep them lubricated too.

The door handles have been swapped for e-series before. Any competent panel shop will be able to do it for you.
The hinges are another thing. It would be a BIG job to fit a totally different design hinge to an x-series.
They're not that dear from ford, just buy a new lower hinge and make sure the door is aligned properly and it will last for ages.
