Hi I am having a lot of trouble with my fuel gauge because it is not working, I have replaced my cluster with the option 20 police dash and still my fuel gauge does t show anything. When I put it onto 2nd accessories it goes to full and then after 2 seconds it will just drop to empty without the empty warning light. Any help will be muchly appreciated.

So what needs to be done? Do I need to replace/tighten something?

replace the fuel pump itself.

its the fuel sender unit, not the pump, but the part the pump mounts to, it has the float and arm

So if i replace the fuel pump is the fuel sender unit included with that part or is that a whole different thing?

Take the pump out of the tank and have a look at it the sender 1st, might be that it's fixable.
I've not done this on my XH, but did a mates Magna, just be careful not to bend anything when you're getting the unit out through the hole in the tank. Could be a loose or broken wire or the sensor arm has got jamed or come adrift, got to be worth a look before spending money and you'll get a better idea what parts you might need. |

I'm pretty new to the ute, but I'd expect it to be on top of the tank, lift the panel in the tub and it should be obvious. probably a round cover with a fuel pipe and some wires on it.
Not done mine, but there must be a gasket round the cover (probably rubber), just be careful with it and it can be reused. Might be an obvious problem, might not. I don't know if you can isolate the sender from the fuel pump power supply to test it, but I wouldn't run the pump dry in case it packs up. Also, don't smoke when you're taking the pump out. I was doing my mates magna and absent mindedly got to work taking the pump out with a cigarette in my mouth. No harm done thankfully. |

I intend to get into mine to have a look in there and change the fuel filter although I think that's outside the tank. If I get round to it before you do I'll post some pictures to help.
And you can bloody stop sending the rain up here! |

Its a piece of piss this job.
Take false floor off tank disconnect wiring Start engine let it stall disconnect battery make sure the area is well ventiliated undo 6 screws on top of tank in a crosswise fashion Take out pump. The pump will be the barrel thing, the sender mounts to the bracket and has the float on the end. The sender just clips on and off. |
