hi,,,this is my first post
my 98 xh developed some play in the steering and after reading posts on this site i tracked it to freeplay in the intermediate steering shaft. to be exact the freeplay was in the pin that connects the shaft to the uni-joint near the rack, under the heat sheild bell. so i removed the shaft and in a vice punched out the pin to find it was worn down. in my box of spare bolts i found that one of the long compressor mounting bolts was a near perfect match. so i cleaned up the bolt, applied a bit of oil and hammered it thru. I left the head on it and cut the excess off leaving enough to stake the end so it cant work loose from either direction. put the heat sheild back on and refitted the shaft zero play in the shaft now and the steering is so much better on road hope this helps someone as this site helped me cheers |

Sounds like a good idea - usually, people weld the pin to the main body.
