Hi guys, I am considering installing power windows into my XH ute. I have been told that the EL & EF will not fit, I need to get XD to XH power window set ups. I have been looking for an article on this conversion but no luck, so can someone give me a link to one if they know of a conversion. Is this correct or not? Cheers.

Heres a link to the article documents.php?d=81

Pretty straight forward, but not the most fun job in the world. Inspect the gears well, clean, regrease and replace the dowels if neccesary before putting the regs in. I believe you can get spare internals from ebay.

Many thanks for the link, it does look a bit fiddly but I will give it a go. Reading the article it says that the EF & EL window mechanisms will fit. Did I read it correctly? If that is the case then I have no problems in putting them in. I recently installed a centre console out of a BA sedan into the Ute and It looks identical to the console in my AU Fairlane. I can do some switch and wiring work by installing two switches into the section where the T bar normally goes. Just make up a panel and put the switches into it and it should do the trick. Thanks for your help.

Nope, read it again.
Simplest to fit XF or earlier motors.
It's a shame the pics don't work any more, as they pretty much covered everything.
But, you'll figure it out - I had no pics or help when I did them.

Your doors are XF doors so you'll need regs to suit them as Snap said...

I helped Rob out with switches in an AU console... He set it all up in his XH... He went with BA illuminating switches as per my set up in my ED...

Many thanks for the input guys, I will go for the XF mechanisms. I do like the switches in the console, but I will give the panel mod in the t-bar recess a go first as it will be easier for a passenger to just lean down and push their button. If it looks crappy then switches on each door will do the trick. Cheers again

You can use XF rear door switches as they only have two. That,s what I did in my van and my mates XH XR8. Parts Lunacy have the dowels and gears[EBAY]. XF do fit straight in EF/EL will not fit. Regards TPVM.

Cheers, I will be making a few calls in the morning to a couple of local wreckers who I know have some XF and ZL cars in their yards. The rear door switches sound okay.

You have a few options - you can get the XF door pods, which replace the existing inside door handles. Rework them for two switches on the drivers door, one switch on the passenger - bit of a PITA though to run wires for both doors across the car.
My setup is an EF/EL switch in both doors where the manual winder used to be, and a modded EA/ED console panel (two switches & lockout) in an EB console.
There was a pic in the doco showing the wiring setup for this, but you can figure it out pretty easily.
