I closed off the tray behind the cab with some checkerplate aluminium. Then I cut a hole to suit the sub between the seats. this also allows me to put my amps for the sub and other speakers in there rather than put them in the cab. Might see if I can find pics for you if you want.

i've got a rodeo ute (single cab) yer i know its not a ford but i will have another at the end of the year, anywho i have a 12inch sub, 4 channel amp and two 6x9's in my rodeo and there deadset virtually no room so an XH ute shouldnt be to much of a problem if ur willing to make or have things custom made

if it helps at all, check out Pioneers website I was on there earlier looking for a sub to fit under front seat, they do some really really slim ones, could only see the 10" and 12"'s on the site, but when i talked to the rep the other day she gave me a part number for an 8". Anyways I ended up buying a Earthquake SWS-8 8" though as was cheaper and looked cooler.
Another option is what I've done in my Valiant ute, I got a Velocity by Blaupunkt box thingo, it's got a built in class D amp and dual 8" subs, the thing absolutely pumps, and it's very very very very small, cost about $380.00 though, you can see some of there new range of them on there website... |

All right. Heres some pics. Still needs finishing around outside. Also gunna box over the wheelarches and down the sides the same with small doors for putting jack etc in. Also have to put doors in checkerplate in pic cos I wanna put second battery in there as well as my jack etc. In the back behind the wheelarches I intend putting two insulated boxes opening at the top (dunno what I might put in there? )

thats kind of wat i was thinking of doing. but maybe using mdf and putting a waterproofing membrene on it. like a waterproofer would use in a bathroom. as for the slim subs...its still a bit of a stuff around tryin the make a box to fit behind the seat

That was a bit I left out. We are also putting a box around the sub but the box will obviously be in the tray. Also, a false bottom has to be put in there to allow any moisture to go under it and drain out the holes on the corners of the tray itself. Will post pics when finished (if I can ever get away from work with any time to spare!)

You can put a sub in next to your fuel tank underneath the panal. Use a jig saw or whateva you like to direct it into the cab. If you havnt already had a look, next time your playing with your ute undo the screws in the tray and lift up the panal and youll see there plenty of room for sub/amp's
If you are going to do a cab extension dont use mdf go with steel

That was the other place I considered putting my second battery. Reason I decided not was waterproofing. Any water in the tray runs into that area (which is for the second tank in the outback version) and then out onto the ground.

xhute0.....i didnt have plans the cut the whole lot out...i was gunna use mdf cause being a chippy would b easier for me to build plus i got all the tools and materials to build it with. building with steel may be a bit difficult havin to tools and having to pay for material |

yeah put it under the tray next to the fuel tank, just silicone up the lid. Works really well.

Yea i got an XG ute and found that if put ur amp in between the seats, and get your self some tube subs(avaliable at JB and most decent sound places) they fit under the seat and provide a mad bass. thats how i have gone about it anyway.
