Hello all. I have a feeling this question has more than likelly been asked a dozen questions but I have been un able to find an aswer. Whats the best way to repair the crack around the clutch cable on the firewall???? I would really like to make it the tidiest option and one that will solve the drama for good. Thanks in advance

Thanks for your prompt reply. there is alot of options out there it seems. my drama is id like to make it a hidden repair and none of this bolt on stuff. would make a nice XR look dodgy.

the best way is to weld the crack and just paint it again

dont weld it up. we have done heaps of these on XF's and XG's the best way is to get the XD-XE part and bolt it in.

those older type inserts really are useless I have had one in my wagon it came loose, I just bit the bullet and had a new plate welded on and reinforced, never cracked since-my clutch is a heavy, heavy unit- i think I may need a knee replacemnt soon , never mind the car! lol

one of our bodgy fixes...we fixed a XF on a jobsite a few months ago.

cut 2 bits of Fascia (bit the gutter sits on)
and pot-riverted it to re-create a wall behind the cable.
and bit of wire strengthened it back to the master cyl with a bit of wire as extra support.

4 months later.. still working a treat.

some people use a grinding disc and put that in there, it spreads the load over the firewall and is soid so wont break etc..
;)
