I have sourced some front stubs, calipers and rotors from an XP Fairmont and will be fitting them into an XL sedan. Have changed upper control arms over to XP to use the correct top ball joints and everything bolts up nicely. Now what to do about master cylinders and boosters? I have a VH44 remote booster, (the smaller looking one of the two, 40-44). I had planned to use, the single original master cylinder, running through the remote booster to all 4 wheels with the XP front calipers and XP Fairmont rear wheel cylinders. Anyone done this before? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Good score on the front brakes. The VH 40/44 will be fine, but you really should swap to a tandem master cylinder. Purely for safetys sake. See if you can find one off an XY or similar. Or just adapt a later model part to the firewall.
You may need to swap to a smaller rear wheel cylinder as well. Talk to Neil @ Custom Brakes, Moorooka, 3848 7788, he will know what to do.

I also picked up a set of XP Fairmont 14 inch 4 stud steel rims that have been widened to 7 inch. Fitted them up with some 205 thin white wall tyres and they look awesome. That was as good a score as the front stubs. I've been told that the booster I have will only boost the front wheels and if I want to boost all 4, I would need the VH40 as they run a higher pressure??? All that aside, I'll talk to the bloke at Moorooka and see what he recommends. Anyone who names their business Custom Brakes sounds as if they are the person I need to speak to. Thanks.

I had a similar system on my Valiant. I had a tandem master. The front brakes were boosted by a VH44 remote, but the rear brakes were not....had it going through a splitter with a brake fail light switch in it. I was using the twin piston PBR calipers....and solid rotors.

Hi mate, good pics, When you say touchy, are you referring to the rears locking up and thats why you used a proportioning valve? Also, Using the standard master cylinder, does the single pipe run from master to booster cylinder, then split 4 ways after that?

henryman wrote: Did it pull up ok? Sh!t yeah.....it was very balanced too, not tailly, pull up straight, no rear wheel lockup under very hard braking, unless the road was a bit rolly, so a wheel would be in the air from it.

yeh mate mean touchy as in you hit the medal to hard and the back locked up. and yes thats why i had to run a valve. um yeh spot on. line from master to top of booster then out and into a distribution block and split 4 ways
