G'day I was hoping someone could give me some possibility’s as to why the cruise control on my 1987 ZL Failane won't engage. I have just purchased this car, the previous owner of 2 years said that it had never worked in the time he had it. Any help would be appreciated.

is the trip computer/clock in the dash working?

It doesn't have the optioned trip computer, only a clock.

does the clock work? i've found that if the clock is dead/unplugged, the cruise control doesnt work....
another thing to check, is the vacuum line to the actuator hooked up?

Yeah the clock works fine, all hoses & plugs appear to be connected.
