i'm going to be putting a 3.73 xr8 lsd into my xt falcon but they have a different tailshaft connecting piece on the front of the diff.
if i get a tailshaft to suit will it suit the rest of my car as in the length and will it fit my 4spd auto gearbox? if not can the front end of the tailshaft be swapped with mine easily?

The Flange that fits on the Pinion is the same on the 3.73 as Turbo BA's and as far as I know you should be able to use either a V8 shaft or the Turbo one? same body.

These split tailshafts are serviced ONLY as a complete unit.

Also are the front and rear bumper mounting brackets still available for an NF Fairlane?

The BA Alternator is used for ALL AUs and so the brackets will fit either alternator, all you have to do is wiring changes for the NEW alternator. :)
You can buy the little rework kit from a Ford Dealer part number AU 10K300 AMC is costs $24.70.
