From what I can work out of that number Ash it is from a Dec 1976 Falcon 500 Wagon.

From what I was told by our Service dept that was an XE one but, I have been in touch with Ford and they claim it is post 1980, who knows? We don't get that sort of info in parts |

Pre or Post 76 the engine number matched the chassis number.
Some early windsors didnt match the chassis number but there was no windsors around from 72 onwards when the XA come out. That is when Ford started casting the Clevo out here. It was only in the era of the EA-EB from memory when they ceased to become a chassis number and becoe a VIN number that they didnt match. Then all Ford did was put some extra numbers in front of the engine number. I think it is about 6 digits. I think someone at Ford is smoking crack to say they dont match.
