Matey, you SHOULD buy a NEW nut part number BA 3F656 B $11.20 and yes, the OLD one MUST be cut off the High Pressure pipe. Either clamp the nut and hose in a vice and carefully hacksaw the OLD not off or get a Nut Cracker, if you don't feel confident enough, have someone do it for you.

A NEW hose is the same for ALL AUs and to me that would be a thing of last resort. If it ISN'T leaking from the rubber hose itself I would not be replacing it. The NEW nut for the end of the pipe SHOULD be enough to fix your leak. :)

ok so i bought the new adaptor nut today, along with the o-ring for where it goes into the rack. I assume i dont need an o-ring for the adaptor nut as it might have one 'built' into it?

also i priced up a new genuine high pressure hose @ $192 for my AUII, but the mechanic reckons he can supply a non-genuine item for $95......... have you had any experience with these? This is all 'if' the mechanic makes a mess trying to remove the nut from the old pipe

thanks for all the advice so far....... even the bloke at Ford said it was a C*** of a design, and that later models have a fixed bracket to stop the pipe moving around :|

Most of the Non Genuine types are ok but, hard to tell without knowing what brand he would use.
I can't see that he would damage the pipe getting the nut off but some people are better at things than others.

There is an O-ring on the nut and a seal inside the nut which is the one that usually leaks.
The hose is a little dear at that price though, the RETAIL price for the hose is $172.50 but, some dealers charge more.

As to the design of the hose, the NEW ones are a modified type and MUCH cheaper than the old ones were. Part Number for the New one is WR2J 3A719 AA.

Jesus - I rang a ford "dealer" here in Canberra for a price on a starter motor for the EB XR8....

$1895 before gst!!!!????!!!!

I proceeded to ask the young gent if it came with the 5.0L engine and all ancilliaries - he had no sense of humour. When I asked why so expensive, he said it was a Motorcraft genuine part.

I nearly fell off my chair laughing - suffice to say he hung up on me...

So in the vein of the thread, what is the going rate for a 1991 EB V8 starter(without the diamond encrusted solenoid)

Hooroo

Exh Man shields BA 9N454 C $60.60, BA 9G478 A $56.90, Eng mnt shield BA 6C038B $56.00 and the bracket for the Turbo BA 9G439 A $102.00.

I dare say that most dealers would NOT carry these and would have to be bought from Ford.

George :)

Unfortunately, these starters ARE super expensive, Recommended retail is $1715.00 but it varies a lot from dealer to dealer. Thes starters are the same from EB to AU although, I can't see why you couldn't use a BA V8 one? which come in at $198.00
The Early one is an American unit but I am guessing that you could buy one from the USA fro MUCH less. There is import duty on these units and also industry protection but still, a bit much .

The OEX branded ones that are sold at repco etc are much much cheaper, not even $150 from memory I bought one from eBay and it has 2yr warranty and works fine! :D
