yeah you can do it yourself but you need a t50? torex bit (can get them from autobarn/super cheap auto) make sure you get a pack that includes T50 as some dont go that big... should only be about $15
- make sure the steering wheel is straight - disconnect battery , wait 10 mins - remove 1 torex screw from either side of the cover directly behind the airbag (behind the cruise and volume switches) - the airbag should now pull out towards you, remove the airbag and disconnect the 2 looms from the airbag - there is one big torex bolt in the middle of the the steering wheel, remove this and pull towards you (very hard with your knees on the dash and dont knock youself out when it goes pop) also make sure all wiring looms are clear when you pull (cruise, volume control etc.)

no need to undo the battery, but if you fancy, undo-away!
suggest undo the T-50 torx bolt and leave a few threads in so its doesn't knock you out when it gives way. try to walk it off side by side and up and down before you put all your force onto the thin wire wheel your pulling on.

just found this (talking about the screws into the airbag)
Quote: It's not a normal torx bit, or even a normal tamper proof torx bit. They are all 6 pointed. What you need is a 5 pointed T30 tamper proof torx bit. Ask for a T-30IPR and you will get what you need.

Hey guy's I'm buying a wheel off an au xr, but am stuck getting it off, I decided to go ahead on it a week ago, and decided to try an have a play finally today, but no success, anybody could possibly help me with suggestions on how they've done this, as it's seems short of spending $35 to get it out, when i can get to ford, but would really prefer a cheaper alternative.

Yeah I'll be able to get the wheel off, but my problem is i can't get the airbag off to get the wheel off, as i can't find the tool.
Nobody in Brisbane I could possibly borrow the tool off or something?

NFI what you said halfway through that sentence.
Loosen the centre bolt, and pull with slight sideways movement. Or buy a puller.

I made my own puller...
Two short-ish M6 bolts... a piece of steel 70mm long 15mm wide and 3mm thick... Drill two 6mm holes with 60mm hole centres... One in the middle of these with a hole about 10mm for the T50 to go through... Under the centre bolt til it hits the steel... Then keep going and it pushes the steering wheel off... Very easy for all of 10mins work and all scrap stuff... Cheers...
