hey guys, im putting the new motor and manual conversion in tomorrow afternoon i managed to get the flywheel bolts and 3 clutch assy bolts from my local ford spare parts ( i got the ONLY manual flywheel and clutch assy bolts they had in stock lol ) i took one of the clutch assy bolts to repco and matched it up with what they had ( BM48 HIGH TENSILE M8 x 1.25x25 ) and got the last 3 bolts i needed i have just 2 more questions, i think i read some where but cant remember exactly that i can reuse the "auto" sandwich plates on the manual...is this true? and what type of thread locker would you recomend?

Sandwich plates should be the same, I didn't change mine when I converted my 6cyl from auto to manual.
Cheers ToranaGuy

Loctite 263 stud locker. The red one. Or the permatex equivalent. http://compare.ebay.com.au/like/120918146579?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes

Great work on the doco though I have a couple questions.
1st: With the required mods to the auto loom do I still have to do this if I'm using the manuals loom?? 2nd: conversion is in a fairmont and planning on using the manual falcon ecu but I'm wondering if ill have any issues with cc or anything?? 3rd: I just bolted it all in but realised I didn't put the top sandwich plate in (slaps forehead), do I now have to remove the box and put it in or can I leave it out??

You need to put that top sandwich plate in! It helps with drive train alignment, and iirc has the threads for the starter motor to bolt up to.
If you install the manual ecu & manual wiring harness, you shouldn't have to worry about the car not running(which is why wiring get's modified). In regards to climate control, what model fairmont are you playing with? Cheers ToranaGuy

Cool. On the CC side of things, I have a feeling you will need to mod something. Have a good read thru, the answer should be in this thread.
I didn't have to in my Eb Ghia, but that's an older car. Cheers ToranaGuy

I think that you have to use the clutch pedal switch to push the Pause button on the cruise control so that it doesn't over rev when you change gears.

That's one part of the conversion I still need to do on my red Eb Xr8, however it doesn't have a cruise control wheel in it atm, so I guess it doesn't really matter until I get the correct wheel so I can actually turn the cruise on lol.
Cheers ToranaGuy

Cheers ToranaGuy I was lucky enough to get mine from the 5spd donor eb awhile ago, wrecked an ef 5spd not long ago and it didn't have the switch so I was happy about 2 things, having the switch from the eb and the pedal box and flywheel from the ef. Got the best box reco'd which was the ef as the eb's gears an syncro's were a mess now its just a parts box.

Yup I have the cc switch for the clutch pedal. I was just making sure the falcon ecu will work in the fairmont. It should still work fine with the Falcon ECU. I run a J3 chip with an EL XR6 manual tune which is technically a Falcon ECU with fuel mapping for a Tickford motor. Not 100% sure, but the CC is affected by the BEM rather than ECU...someone correct me if I am wrong here.

My EL Fairmont Ghia is undergoing a manual conversion at the moment, what happens if I just leave the auto ECU in there without doing resistor trick or remapping my J3?
Thanks guys. |
