Guys I keep having a dream someone steals my car and rites it off.
What is the simplest way to put a killswitch in for peace of mind. Preferably for the fuel pump. Thanks. |

Maybe confirm with a psychic first - otherwise you can just splice into the +12V on the fuel pump relay and put a simple switch under the dash. It's crude, but might help you sleep at night.

Just pull the battery out...or if it's manual, remove the gear stick...I don't think a thief brings a spare gear lever with them. Or better yet, just remove the whole steering wheel with some quick release bolts.
Kill the ignition like the smart lock does...might also work.

Disconecting battery works of. But then the car has to do the whole re learn how to idle thing. Plus central locking dosnt work.
My car dosnt have smart lock. I always park somewhere safe. And I couldn't afford two big angry dogs. Might just find the fuel pump wire and hide a switch somewhere. Just for when I have to park somewhere dodgy or leave her out of my sight for a while. Is there a fuel pump wire in the dash looms somewhere? |

I assume the theft would most likely take place at night - you could always disable the headlights. That'd f**k them up

whenever u park somwer odd or park your car for the night just pop the bonnet and either disconnect or remove the coil to dizzy lead. no way som crook is runnin around with one in thier poket. And isnt too outlandish like removin the battery.

get yourself an engine wiring diagram and pick any number of systems to disable.
You can cut the fuel pump trigger signal from the ecu to the fuel pump relay, The power wire to the fuel pump, Ign power to the ecu relay, Ign power to the BEM which will prevent the smartlock signal being sent, The power for the injectors, The ground wire for the coil, Either power or ground from the ignition module, Cut power to the starter motor wire or starter motor relay, Cut one wire to the ISC motor which will continually stall your motor after it starts, Netural switch on your gearbox, will work for either auto or manual gearboxs, ETC It's generally better to tap into low current wires because you can use smaller switches and hide them better. A good one for if you are leaving your car for a extended period of time is to remove the rotor button. Enjoy, Anthony

You can Buy an ok(ish) car alarm with a built in immobiliser on eBay for $150 . Most come with two way paging keyfobs and central locking kit .Then Hide a seperate switch that will also disable the engine just to be safe .

I rigged up a kill switch, and a starter button all at the same time. I cut the battery + wire off the back of the ignition switch, and joined that to a switch so unless that's on there's no power to the key, then I cut the wire to the starter motor + and hooked that to a switch. Then with an "on/off/on" switch I hooked the battery + connection to one side and a flashing LED on the other (just for looks) Personally, with alarms, I don't really like them, I had one car with an alarm in it, and when I was drivin along one day, my alarm decided to activate, kill the engine, start my horn blaring and my lights flashing at 60 on a highway, with the family in the car. Then no auto electrician would touch it cos they didn't have the time to work it out, or the diagram to disconnect it. I ended up just turning it off with the little key for the box and had a bunch if wires under my dash for decoration. So I just bought a club lock. Now that's an effective idea, cos the scum dosent even bother getting into the car in the first place. Another big one is that I knew a guy who fit charged with assault for beating the s**t out of a potential thief when his alarm went off and he was awake watching a movie. I'd love to catch a car thief, I've had 2 cars stolen, but the good tingly feeling I'd get wouldn't last the whole 20 years in jail...So I spose I rather avoid the contact.

I used the tech doco to put one in my XH. It cuts power to the fuel pump relay and you have to press it each time so you can't forget to set it. Plus I can disable the whole system so I don't have to tell mechanics, mates etc where the switch is. Some people said a robber would crash my car when it ran out of fuel but if the pump isn't working I hardly have time to put it in gear before she dies.
Works a treat and a lot cheaper than $150 to put in. |

Have you thought about cutting the ground to the fuel pump instead of the power. Same effect, but not often though of as a bypass. Someone who is determined to steal a car can get power to a fuel pump...
Only thought about it because on an NC the Fuel Pump ground is easy to get to at the rear taillight. Nigel |

Yeah, also with an earth...there's no risk of it earthing out! unlike a live wire, also no risk of melting a switch with a surge or too much power through it.
It is somthing I worry about with mine being on the main battery positive, but the 20 amp switch is working fine an has never got warm.

No risk of it earthing out, but its still passing the same current through it. So it can still get hot/melt if your underrated.
Worth noting though that most fuel pumps use 3-8 amps when on, so most 20-40a relays will be fine Nigel |
