here it is, took me 3 days and many hours to get hold of so i thought i would share it
3.9 CFI FUEL INJECTION ECU CODES HOW TO READ THE CODES WITH A TESTLIGHT OR VOLTMETER The ford EEC IV ECU will enable two test modes, K.O.E.O(key on engine off) and E.R (engine running). There are five service code types FAST CODES: used for checking codes during manufacture. Some code retrieval tools use this system ECU IDENTIFICATION: The first code sequence, give ECU codes eg: 20, 30, 40 ect ON DEMAND CODES (hard codes): Faults present an time of test. SEPARATOR CODES: code 10 separates hard faults from memory faults MEMORY CODES:codes for intermittent faults that have happened in the last 20 engine warm up cycles. DIAGNOSTIC CODE EXTRACTION PROCEDURE KEY ON ENGINE OFF jump the self test connector black/white wire teminal 2 on the 6 pin connector to the white/red wire 1 pin self test connector. connect the negitive of the voltmeter/test light to the white/black teminal 4 of the 6 pin connector and the positive to the positive battery teminal. switch on ingintion and the ECU will proform self test. remember that hard faults are first, followed by a separator code and then memory fault codes. KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING connect the voltmeter/test light to the black/white wire terminal 2 of the 6 pin connector and the other lead to the positive on the battery teminal. start the engine and connenect the white/black wire terminal 4 on the 6 pin connector to the white red wire 1pin self test connector. becareful when connecting not to double touch when connecting or the ECU might lock you out of the self test. the engine rpm should increase when self testing begins. this high idle will continue while the ECU carries out its own self tests. as soon as the idle decreases, any fault codes will start. while the ECU is in selt testing is the only time the ignition timing can be checked or ajusted. <img src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g133/fastleno/wire.jpg" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"><br><br> READING OF DIAGNOSTIC CODES the codes are output through the voltmeter/testlight and are represented by a series of deflectons of the voltmeter needle or flashes on the test light. each deflectons/flash lasts for .5 seconds, there is a two second pause bettween each digit, a four second pause between each code and a six second pause before and after the seperator code, after all codes have been output the code sequence will be repeted once. for example if code 21 is present in the system there will be a two .5 second deflectons/flashs, a two second pause, one .5 second deflectons/flash, a six second pause then the separtor code. if more than one code is present in the system thay will be output in numerical sequence, smallest to largest. ERASING DIAGNOSTIC CODES to clear the codes simply disconnect the wire to the self test connector during testing. Good work.
Should get a mod to add it to the tech docs.

Thanks for the PM fastleno, will get onto it asap.
I've got all this stuff in my books and also stuff on cd's, i'll have to go through what we have / haven't got and upload them all when i get time. |

good work fastleno!
If anyone has any doco's they would like to contribute, post a thread in the technical documents forum, I will see them in there and contact you to arrange it all!!

Just had a look at this, and noticed its for cfi 3.9s. Is it all the same for MPFI?

Great work fastleno.

So i finally got around to running it. The only codes i've come up with so far for the KOEO test is 52. There were a few flashes before that, but they werent repeated, and were really short? Not sure whats going on there. Next up was the engine running test. I did everything as the instructions said to, but the revs never increased, and the test light never turned out? Whats going on there?
