Would carby cleaner clean the carbon s**t of the piston?
What is the best way to remove the s**t.

shnoza...I was planning on using degreaser/carbon cleaner on a rag and let it sit in the cylinder for a while until the carbon gets loose. Then use some more degreaser/carbon cleaner to wipe it off, if the rag is dry.
I'll probably won't be spraying any degreaser or carbon cleaner down the cylinders. BTW krytox...which ones are the oil galleries? Are they the big holes that are weird shaped on the right of the motor (if you look at it from front on) or are the oil galleries the smaller oval ones? thanks phong =P~

I got a hybrid (spelling) el. Just checking if it's alright to use a AU head gasket kit and head bolts. Ive already bought them.
Also how much would a kit of stem seals cost? would i use au ones?

Well I won't be continuing this thread until I get the head back. Which won't be for another week or 2...I told them to take their time since I am in no hurry...I also have no money hahaha

What is the easiest way to replace the plastic timing chain guide?
It broke off where that single bolt goes on top of the head.

It broke off where that single bolt goes on top of the head. Timing cover must come off, thats after lowering the sump and removing balancer and pulley's. Need new gasket for timing cover, might as well buy and fit new timing kit. Will need a tool to remove the balancer. You will also find the lower plastic guide will fall into the sump as you pull the timing cover off. This plastic guide has got to be the biggest f**k ive experienced with the falcon 6. |

Would anything happen if i just leave it the way it is?
eg timing chain skip and damage valves?

I wouldnt leave the top one snapped, but the bottom one in mine is missing as it usually falls into the sump and we didnt bother replacing it and the car runs fine, not noisy at all.
But ive heard that the chain will eventually chew out the timing cover |

the top part of mine broke in my old xr6 that i bought to fix up and sell.
it didnt seem to affect it but if it was my personal car i think i would have done it.

My top timing guide snapped on my current motor. It doesn't do much, besides a persistent and annoying rattle at 2000RPM
phong =P~ EDIT: getting head back at the end of this week. Just got it pressure tested and re-surfaced. Costing me about 200 odd.

I got quoted about $480 for a reconditioned head with new valves, and the likes.
Final bill is about $200 for a head re-surface and pressure test. Head is finished, just needs to be picked up from the mechanic whenever I get the chance. Then I will continue on with this thread... phong =P~
