g'day
does anyone know what you have to go through to convert a power steering rack out of a au3 ute to have no power steering. doing a bit of a project and cant fit the pump anymore.....

Huh? Explain what you are doing? Cause it would no it will be a C*** to drive without power steering.

i've gone and wedged a big block in the engine bay.... fits good, but the power steering just looks and fits untidy...

i'm guessing you could modify a non power steer rack out of something earlier and a different model. AFAIK they didn't release a non p/steer falcon that had a rack.
or just do what i've seen before and leave the p/steer rack and drive in manually. would be very heavy though

maybe a Commodore pump as they have the Fluid container seperate from the pump on some early models (VK)

the heavy-ness doesnt worry me to much, but what about using the rack without oil, i take it there will be heaps more slop and maybe some notchy -ness. thats the stuff i cant live with

my brother put gilmer drives on his old VP 5L Calais and he removed the p/steer. steered fine. just effing heavy

Short drives, fine Taking corners at high speed = death Driving for longer than 20 mins = arms feel like i just did epic gym sesh I suppose it was a good workout though lol, but seriously taking corners quickly is not fun...it's REALLY heavy

ive got a 71 f100 with no power steer, couldnt be much worse than that surely....

Its different driving a car that doesnt have power steering from factory to driving a car that does, and its not working... Cars without pwr str arent that bad, you normally just have to swing the wheel more, cars that have pwr str but its not working are C***.
