1/2 - 3/4 filling the filter is good practice regardless of whether it's "needed".
I always do it.

If you look back my idea is to not even fill the filter at all only lube the rubber, therefore no spillage. I dont use ramps or stands when i do my oil and i never seem to spill anything at all.
But i will defend the idea of filling the filter since that only takes a matter of seconds, and you cant possibly screw it up. Think about it if a noob decided that they want to pull a lead of plug out in a hurry to do a change there is a possibility they will break a lead by pulling the boot or snap a plug by trying to hurry it. If you are doing an oil change all you need to touch on the motor is the, sump plug, oil filter and oil cap. Why mess around with something you dont need to?

Why mess around with something you dont need to? if your doing your own oil change i'd guess you'd know how to do the "basics" like remove a lead or plugs (and on a e series falcon a filter isn't the easiest as you know) so what happens if your doing a "major" service? takes just as long to do it then? and yeah i always "lube" |

Quick question on the Nulon oil flush that you used.... When you started the car back up did you find that the engine rattled unusually for a bit? From what I gather the idea of using it is to remove all the oil from the engine leaving virtually nothing behind. When I tried it on and EF it felt like it had stripped away all the oil including some that lubricated the timing chain so it felt rough, after about 500km it sorted itself back out.
Anyone else had this issue? Or was it just something I did wrong? |

To answer your question I did not notice that it rattled after the flush, maybe you had a noisy lifter it is not really unusual for them to rattle at times than at others not rattle at all. Best bet is to idle it and have a listen if it isnt doing it constantly you shouldnt have a problem aslong as you keep an eye on it.
