what about some tech docs dedicated to the 8's?
i am sure people like me, who dont know a great deal about upgrading the 8's, with manifold, MAF, TB and the sort. i havent got the knowledge yet to do a doco, but if anyone out there wants to do it, i am sure it would be muchly appreciated. it also stops idiots like me, asking the questions that have been answered over and over again.

This may sound like the dumbest question going round, but how does increasing the MAF size make your car go better? Keen to learn without googling it. And what size are the stock ones? How do I obtain a bigger MAF? From an XR or stang?

The MAF is part of the air intake so basically any increase in flow will give you power gains as long as its not too big. Stock MAF is 55mm. To increase size of the MAF, a good replacement MAF is the 73mm C&L MAF from the states which can be had for $110USD. Another option is a 75mm Pro-M MAF.
When buying one if you have stock injectors, make sure the MAF is calibrated for 19lb injectors. Down the track if you increase the size of your injectors, eg. 24lb, then you can buy a sample tube which sits inside the MAF that is calibrated to your new injectors size so you don't have to replace the whole MAF. A good mod to do with the MAF is also upgrading to a 65mm throttle body which you can get off an AU V8. Maybe also a cold air intake. The power gains wont be huge but will hopefully rev up a bit quicker. |

make sure the maf tube is calibrated. My C&L MAF alledgedly has the right 19lbs sample tube, according to CAPA its got the right measurments to be a 19lbs tube, yet on the car it completly kills it. Very flat, minimal throttle response, then it kinda picks up, but then still dosnt rev as freely.

I had similar probs with my ProM 75mm unit, so I checked air/fuel mixtures which were 14.8:1 during cruising, but when the throttle was opened the voltage sent back to the ecu wasn't enough (indicating it wasn't calibrated to my injectors) so I slowly opened up the sample tube, step by step until it reached a good mixture, but I wouldn't reccomend doing this without having the knowledge or correct air/fuel monitor etc

Hey efnwik6, i had similar problems with CAPA... the tube i ended up using is definately not the 19# one... I think the chip they programmed for me must have the MAF set up differently... either way, it all works OK now.
What tubes have you tried?

Just do what i am doing, Go EMS 8860, delete the MAF and run a MAP Sensor. Problem solved

at this stage I havn't tried any others, im sending off the tube to CAPA to get them to swap it over for a new 19lbs tube. hopefully that will then work out the gremlins.

Pretty sure the 19# tube has the largest diameter. i.e. look at the one you have at the moment and on the end with the flat edge, the diameter should be smaller than the end near where the MAF wires poke through.
i.e. has the largest sample size and therefore gives maximum inj pulse width because they are the smallest injectors... tubes for larger injectors have smaller sample sizes, reducing pulse width because the larger injectors flow more fuel for a given pulse width... CAPA were pretty good with me, they sent out a few tubes for me to try.

its 14mm on the flat edge, and 20mm on the slanted side. top to bottom or they are both 14mm across. Hopefully I can sort it out cos iv'e had the blasted thing sitting under my bed since I bought it cos it didnt work!

Try cloking the maf as air may enter maf differently to Mustang air cleaners... Turn it 45* at a time....
