My 1998 au has developed a leak from the breather. I've jacked up the car and can see were its coming from .When you touch the breather you can move the top part around? you can here it venting/breathing.Is this normal? I've got prices for second hand from wreckers $880 fitted and reconditioned fitted $1760 from auto specialist.Times are tough, the s/hand one has done 168,000 is the s/hand one from the wreckers a good option? is the auto box the same for series 2 & 3 au's?

i had to replace the little breather on the missuses ba a month ago.
its on the extension housing and is easy to do without taking the gearbox out. just undo the crossmember and let it hang down for access.

If the breather wasn't working, you'd have oil leaking from nearly all the seals.
