Hi people.

I am looking into a new venture. I am building what I hope to be the worlds fastest XF Falcon and I need a gearbox. I am putting together a stroked, twin turbo EFI Cleveland that should make around 1000 hp and I need a manual gear box that can take the punishment. I am making the car for the salt racing in South Aus. Looking for a 5spd to put in front of 2.5 diff gears. I know a good top loader will do the job but I really want the extra gear. Any thoughts?

Lol. With the torque required to make 1000hp, you will smash a TKO and a Toploader. You will need to ask some trans gurus in the US mate. Also, how do you intend to get the clevo to hold together with 1000hp?

I am using an after market dart block with a 408 ci stroker kit with 4 bolt mains. Alloy heads with big valves and roller rockers, big cam and gear drives. Home made inlet manifold with motec ecu and fuel system. Twin t4 turbos that flow 700hp each. Front air inter-cooler. A bloke in the states made a similar combo and was making 790 hp without the turbo inlet hooked up. I am only about a month away from being able to test run the engine without the turbos as i am still finishing off the manifolds and the inter cooler plumbing.

when you break that block in two, don't forget to put up pics.

I think you may need a good size shot of happy gas to get the magic number though.

C4 with bolt on overdrive should get you the box combo you need. Its all power draining stuff though.

A few years ago we purchased a nascar 4 speed box, $1700 odd, put it up behind a 6.3l V12 Jag motor in an XJS. hold up well, and we are punching about 600Hp ATW. 1000HP is asking alot from any box that is not a glide.

This guy here is punching out 1,700 hp from a Viper V10 twin turbo.....with a Viper manual box.

So, what ever the Vipers' run, a T56 or similar, would do the job.

Dont be so sure. I know someone who smashed a Viper spec T56 in an AU with 700rwhp

I have just had a look at the holinger gear boxs. They look good but max out at 650 ft.lb of torque. I am not sure of what my torque output will be but should be around 900 ft.lb. All the people who run on the salt say they prefer to run a manual gear box to keep the power delivery constant. It would be cheaper to build an auto but i am trying to do things right. I am about $40,000 in to the build so far and there is still a lot more to buy. I would hate to get there and find out i have used the wrong box and blow it up on the first run. Would mean a lot of wasted time and money.

I think a t56 Magnum is probably your only option. I've seen a few handle over 1000 hp. Ask Mal Wood in Queensland I think, he's built a few for huge horsepower.

I don't think there's much out there that will handle it bar the Magnum.

Magnums are only rated to 700lb/ft. It will need something like a Jericho or similar.

Don't forget, he's running on salt, no traction, skinny tyres, rolling start, etc, so not a great amount of stress on the driveline. I would look at a Nascar box, like a Tex racing 4 speed. You wont need an overdrive with 2.5's and a 28" tall rear tyre. The aero-vs-traction issue will likely be the limiting factor rather than running out of RPM in top gear. Good luck, and dont forget to take LOTS of water with you when you head off to the big white dyno. 8-)
