hi all
has anyone come across this problem before i have an eb2 4l lowered i went to put 17" wheels with 45 profile tyres (which will look good) but the tyre is hitting the grease nipple on the uper ball joint without taking the nipple off and replacing it with a small bolt has anyone else got a fix |

sorry mate, but is it definately the upper and not the lower? The upper balljoint points up, so the grease nipple should be pointing down from under the steering knuckle.
Unless its actually the top nut, which has a split pin through it.... in which case I havent heard of this prob before... |

I've got 17s on my eb series 1 and didn't encounter this problem because the ball joints didn't have the nipples. My advice: get rid of the nipples or maybe replace the ball joints themselves. Are the wheels you are using the correct offset? Just a thought.........

yes upper ball joint
they should all have grease nipples on them now or you will be replacing them more often the wheels are of my sons xf that he just sold dont think the offset should be to different |

yeh, never heard off them hitting with the right offset, my 17's with 45 profile have about a fingers gap.
i got some money on them being a different offset.

I've got a couple of MM to spare between the top of my tyres & the grease nipple on the upper BJ on my EB. Running 17x8 with 234/45's. It looks like it's not enough gap, but the tyre never hits the nipple.
Replace the nipples with bolts, but don't loose them, because when you wanna grease the BJ's up you will need them. Cheers ToranaGuy

could try using some really small spacers. illegal yes, but some thin ones shouldnt take up too much of the thread the wheel nuts bolt onto.

You may need a camber kit & other adjustments. The previous owner had 20's on my EB no probs, I ran 18's before the ROH drift type R rims 235/40/18 on the front & 265/40/18 on the rear & now I have AU 16's on my car.

Good point about the camber kit.
I AM running a camber kit in my EB, has quite a few shims in there btw. Without it, i too would probably be rubbing the nipples on the tyres. Cheers ToranaGuy

A camber/castor kit wont change where the tyre is in relation to the upper ball joint as its fixed to the axle stub. Have you looked at the condition of the spindle itself for wear? are the wheel bearings worn or in need or adjustment?
