I just purchased a 1989 EA Ghia with only 155K kms which is in perfect condition. I am after the standard mods to make it handle better and run better. The info I am after is what's the best front struts to use, rear shocks (it has a Ford heavy towpac fited with Monro gas shocks), etc... Do you need the camber alignment kit or not (wheel alignment is pulling to left a bit). I had the fuel injectors cleaned after a rough idle and now it funs very smoothly - what other tricks can I do to get better performance. Is it worth putting a EBII head on it? (As I believe their different and better).
Kind Regards, Chris |

best shocks..... depending on who you ask, either bilstien or koni
camber kit depends on how low you want to go, lows, probably not, superlows, defintely, but a wheel alignment will stop the car pulling to the left good start for mods would be a set of pacemaker extactors and a 2.5" zorst, K&n panel filter and maybe a cam

Thanks for the reply. Are Monro Gas or Gabriel (gas) shocks any good? And what's a fair price for the extractors and filter? I'm not worried about the cam yet (until the head gasket needs work )

Is your car still fitted with auto leveling rear suspension ? thats what they had from the factory, and if it still has it u will have to replace both the rear shockers and sprngs !

Another good option for shocks that won't break the bank is BOGE and KYB.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got a set of new Monroe Gas for $100 each and fitted them myself. The front-end rides much better now. As for the rear end, it has a heavy duty tow pack and apparently the Ford springs are heavy duty (coloured red) and should not be used with air shocks as a heavy load (ie horse float) will result in something in the air system blowing (as it can't lift the weight). Ford told me this, so, it should have some credability - It has monroe gas on the rear which seem OK. Off to get a wheel alignment. Also, anyone know what causes a knock in the front end when you go over small bumps at lowish speed (0-60 kms). I replaced the sway bar linkages and bushes to now availe, and the mechanic reckons the ball joints are OK. Please help..

Do you know what part of the rack it was? I've been told the joint between the tie rod and the 'rack' wears. I presume this would be much cheaper to fix then a new rack.
Cheers, And have a good Xmas |
