Hi guys, just recently bought an EF Falcon manual and am having a few problems with it if anyone can help. First thing is, the clutch is friggin heavy, is this normal? I have driven alot of manuals and never felt one this heavy. Second of all, i can't get it into gear most of the time. Only way to get it in is to pull the clutch all the way up with my foot then push it all the way back in. I'm thinking this is a clutch cable problem? it's not looking too good. And i know this is going to sound really newbish but where to get myself a new clutch cable?

If this is in the wrong section i apologize!

hi there, welcome to fordmods.

sounds like your cable could be on the way out. you can order clutch cables at places like Repco, Auto Pro, etc etc. theyre usually about 60-80 bucks depending where you go.

Thanks for the quick reply! I also forgot to mention that reverse doesn't work very well. When putting it into reverse it grinds badly and then when i reverse it seems to jump out of gear and grind badly.

hmmm, sounds like reverse could be half stuffed.

also, im pretty sure the E-series boxes dont have syncro on reverse, so you should put it in a forward gear before selecting reverse when stationery. but i know popping out of reverse isnt normal :? lol

As mentioned, fit a new cable - adjust the clutch pedal height too.
Probably find the existing adjustment isn't correct, hence hard to get into any gear.

Early boxes don't have syncro on reverse. Eb2 onwards do. I have one early v8 box with no syncro on reverse, and have driven a EA with T5, no syncro on reverse. My Eb2 Ghia I6 has an ED T5 with syncro on reverse & my EB s2 Xr8 T5 also has syncro on reverse.

Popping out of any gear isn't normal, and indicates worn hardware inside the gearbox. But first make sure the box isn't slapping around inside the trans tunnel & getting knocked out of gear that way.

I broke the gearbox mount & had issues with it jumping out of 3rd, due to the stick hitting the edge of the hole for it. Fixed the broken mount, no more issues.....

Cheers

And As for your heavy clutch I was like WTF when I first drove mine around, but from what iv been told it's just normal. You get used to it pretty quick anyway. When I drive my mates wrx now it feels as though my foot falls to the floor

It will be a T5, probably a wc box. There should be some numbers on the side of it, that will help identify it.

Cheers
