Hi i have a 2004 260 boss eng with factory 4 speed tiptronic auto going into a f100. the problem is the wiring is a nightmare for conversion. so was thinking run engine off a after market computer and get another auto box that doesnt need a computer to run it. does any one know of a sutible box or a way of making factory set up work?

bah, wirings not that hard. you could possibly get a non electronic AOD gearbox from the states and get a bellhousing from a 4.6ltr electronic AOD, then use an aftermarket ECU to run the engine. Although everyone says the stock ECU s**t all over any aftermarket one

thanks been looking at that the aod non electronic all ive seen the bellhousing is part of the box so swapping them isnt easy . the stock set up would be best all round but you have to have all little modules and all crap wired in which is a drama when i just want to run eng and box.

you can get the ECU reflashed to remove the need for all the security and extra modules (ICC/ABS)

Is it just that easy

mostly - there are a one or two build threads on here where people did B series engine conversions to E series cars (without swapping the whole interior over) thats how they got around the security issues

ok thanks still no 100% convinced would solve all my problems tho. Have just heard you can bolt a AODE box straight up and it runs its own computer seperate from any other loom, sounds promising and expensive,

even if you solve the autobox problem, youve still got to run the engine somehow - which is going to add more money and complexity, whereas running the standard stuff you just strip out the sections of loom you dont need

thanks yea turns out theres a aode box from states sitting in storage at a auto shop here fully reconed i can pick up for a pretty reasonable price. Then can run engine off a link or something and doo away with most electrics and fly by wire throttle making things a lot more deloomed and better tuneability in future. I think im gona go with this set up and doubt itl cost much more than trying to get standard setup working reliably. for anyone interested in thease boxes they sound prety good and rated for big horsepower, have two settings power and economy, also can set lockups for different gears for hard shifting and rapid acceleration. They bolt straigth up to the 5.4 block two, a far superior box two the aod or the standard box witch is really just a 6 cylinder box with a few tweaks over the years to fit the 4.6 and 5.4 blocks
