can the LSD diff centres be put into a single spinner 3.08 diff housing? Or is it easier to just change the whole diff?

Its not a backyard job to swap centres unless you know 100% what you are doing, if the LSD is good, just swap that in, otherwise get the centre swapped and the LSD refreshed at the same time.

I thought the 3.45 a*** just wouldn't fit in the 3.08 housing?!?

AFIK, they are both 28 spline axles so no problem, the gears are not any bigger, just the ratio of teeth change the gearing.

thats what i've been told as well when i asked the same question - you'd need the diff housing from a 3.23 & above...

the gear set is a different size and will not fit into 3.08 housing - unless you have a a*** made for a 3.08 housing (there are two series a 78 and a 75/76 series - one of them will fit into a 3.08 the other wont)

Must Be 3.23 or above to fit one out of a wrecked xr.
The lsd hemi will interchange from 3.08 to 3.45

Would it be cheaper to modify the gears (get someone to do it) or to get the whole diff?

I'm not sure whether to get 3.45 or 3.7s anyway.

Go a 3.7 mate... i changed to a 3.45 from a 3.08 and i cant notice much difference in take off. all i notice is it revs alot harder..... but it did hurt fuel economy a bit so id assume 3.7 would hurt even more..

??? - I had 3.45 centre put into my 3.08 housing - that's a non LSD centre tho - BUT the transmission place that did it said a LSD 3.45 centre would have been no problem.

In fact I had a LSD centre lined up but the sleazy a***hole in Melbourne I was buying the parts off ripped me off - ie. parts didn't arrive - number not connected anymore etc. (seems real strange for about $320 worth - evidently he was frying bigger fish at the same time). So because I was impatient I just grabbed normal 3.45 centre bits and had them fitted.

depends on what the 3.45 came out of aswell.
these things have been changed and swapped so much now.
if you buy a new a*** you can buy 3.45 to fit all the different series of diffs

Looks like I'm gonna have to call a diff place in Perth because I'm hearing 2 1/2 completely different sides.

1: Can't be done.
2: Can be done with or without some modifying.
1/2: Can be done but its not an LSD.

When I know I'll find out.
