3.45 is standard, 3.9 will be fine, it will just rev a little @ 110. Your top gear is .73 roughly (manual. .68 auto) and in my XA I have 3.7 rears, and sit on about 2800 @ 100 with a 1.1 top gear....
Diff gears make a huge difference

I've got 3.9's in my ef xr8 auto, sits on 2400rpm at 100kmh. The only time i really notice the rev's is from 90kmh up.

do the 3.9 gears fit into the standard diff?
is it something i could do myself or is it best to get a qualified person to do it?

Gears should fit fine. I'd take to a diff shop to be done. I paid $1100 for 3.9's fitted plus lsd rebuilt.

I just rang up two different diff places and was told that you can't fit skyline/pintara gears into an ea or later Falcon as the pinion heights are different. I don't know if this is true but be carefull mate. Can anyone else clear this up, has anyone done it?

Yeah I found out that you can fit them after all. If someone tells you can't tell them they don't know what there on about. Victoria diffs in mitcham do it and Northern Differentials in Campbellfield do it as well. It involves putting bw 75 series gears into the bw 78 series of your falcon. It can be done if you know what your doing.
