Thanks 4 the input guys. Went around to the tranny place and asked nicely, and he still ignored my case. Funnily enough, since his main worker the tranny specialist has gone overseas 4 good, he doesnt know a thing about transmissions, he is now apparently selling up shop from what i hear. My own mechanic said to tow the car to him and he's gonna pull the radiato apart and check what s**t is in the cooler ie. transmission fragments, or did the cooler stuffup which caused the tranny to melt down. Just to confirm that the radiator is brand new by Mr Radiators, andmy mechanic reckons he hardly hears about coolers s**t themselves if theyre brand new. More likely the tranny wasnt done properly. When we find out, I will then proceedfurther, and quickly since the tranny bloke stutting up shop. Mr Radiators have a 2yr warranty on their radiators. Also i did see the economy light once flashing a month ago for ten minutes but never come back since until after the tranny went on the freeway. Please advise if what im doing is the best course of action.

This is the conditions of warranty on the invoice.
Your rebuilt transmission is warranted for a period of 24mths or 40000kms which ever occurs first,in accordance with the vehicles manufacturers installation instructions and the tranmission oil cooling system cleaned and flushed. This warranty does not cover consequential damage, injury to person or persons towage accomadation or loss of income, nor does it cover defects arrising from accident, misuse, overloading, negligence or participation in competitive motor sports, nor does it cover units fitted to vehicles modified from manufacturers specifications. etc....... |

I'm guessing he hasn't seen or heard much about the later AU's and BA's then. Friends in tranny rebuild shops have done many a water logged 4 speed because the internal cooler has cracked within its 1st year of driving. Flashing econ light means tranny is dying, thats what its for. My bosses wife did something similar when she blew the tranny in their EL after driving from Cranbourne to Phillip Island with the econ light flashing. It stopped just over the bridge to the island, and that was it, new tranny. Best bet that you never mention you saw the light flashing at any time, as it may make you liable. If you do find metal crap in the cooler or lines, you will have to word it carefully when you try to claim anything. In reality, the metal bits could have been from your first trans failing, or they may have been there from the start. From your side, the situation stinks. Speaking to someone with some legal authority might be the best bet. |

I read that as you are getting a 2 year / 40,000km warranty providing the tranny is installed according to Fords instructions and that you clean and service the transmission system as directed by the Ford handbook. But it doesn't say that they flushed and checked the cooling system first. It is saying that they expect you to do it in some capacity to not void your warranty. |

If RACV installed a blocked radiator as part of the repair work then I would say you could claim negligence. The parts they use need not be new but I think they need to be in reasonable working order. The problem is that you would need to prove that the radiator was faulty at the time of installation and did not become blocked later due to some other reason. I guess the relatively short time period between the repair work and transmission failure would be in your favour.

If I had the light flashing I would've stopped right there and then. But that can't be helped now. I wouldn't mention it either.
Why didn't this auto go into limp home mode, to try and stop it from self destructing. |

It flashed for 10minutes thats it,i thought my econom/power selector switch was playing up. If it flashed again i was gonna look into it, but it never flashed before and it never started flashing afterwards again.

Good news. Finally found the cause of the problem. When the new radiator was installed, the panel beater stuffed up and jammed the transmission pipe with the front bumper bar. He was supposed to put both pipes thru a hole in the frame, but only put one thru while the other went infront of it. Consequently, when the bumper bar was attached, it partially jammed the hose, but not fully; thats why it took 2-3mths for the tranny to go, since there was limited flow happeneing.
Panel beater accepted partial responsibility but tranny guy wouldn't budge, even though he should of properly checked the flow, and found out why the tranny died twice in the first place. Panel beater then offered to give me a reco tranny thru one of his guys, so the origininal dodgy tranny guy gets away scot free the prick. In the end happy we found the cause and its getting fixed, but would of liked the tranny guy to be found negligible but he didnt wanna talk or come over to inspect, so to avoid tribunal stress, the panel beater offered to fix it for free (and to avoid going thru his own insurance). Thanx for the input guys, and will let u know how it goes once i get it back maybe tuesday. TO TURBO AUTOMATICS IN EPPING MELBOURNE, I HOPE U GOTO HELL. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND YOU f**k!!! (sorry for my language) |
