Ok, the mod bug is biting at me and im thinking about fitting a 3.9/4.11 diff in my AUII, like i had in my EF along with a speedo corrector to keep shift points and speedo working correctly
However whats stopping me is since selling my EF, ive gotten used to having a working cruise control, and with my EF the speedo corrector i fitted seemed to disable the cruise control...... a few people have had the same issue, and i havnt seen a reason to why or how to get around it I wired up my EF as per basic diagram below. With it done like this, only one speedo corrector needs to be used, and shift points & speedo work fine, however cutting the wire coming from the speedo cluster must have an effect on the cruise control as mine never worked since has anyone fitted short diff gears, used a speedo corrector, AND still retained cruise control? gearbox-suspension-brake-driveline-f4/modifying-auto-shift-points-t74472.html |

I had 3.9 gears and after reading about the trans not running properly with speedo correctors i did without... car ran great and still shifted at the right revs and cruise control worked perfectly.

yeah, was hoping to get it reading correct speed, and have cruise working
it seems the dash cluster does something to the signal when it passes through for the cruise function, and when the output wire is cut & tapped into the gearbox wire it doesnt have the same required signal anymore |

the flash tuner from capa allows you to adjust setting from tire and gear ratio changes aswell as tune your car aswell

I wired my EF like this (with a Jaycar speedo corrector kit) and cruise works fine.
I think you either didn't reconnect the ECU wire correctly or you have another issue with the cruise. Try removing the corrector and starting from there. Jason

ok ive added a little more detail to the diagram, and this was done on my EF which has since been sold. I just wanted a little confirmation that i can do this on my AU without losing cruise like previously on my EF
Right side cluster connector - Pin 4 (white wire) was intercepted to correct the speedo, and pin 5 on the same connector was cut and spliced into Pin 4 but before the speedo corrector Cruise never worked since i did that, and ive seen a couple other posts of the same thing happening. Galapogos, did you wire it up exactly the same? and you said you had no other issues? |

As I said above, that's what I did (I don't have the brain capacity to recall cluster pin numbers from 5 years ago, sorry). Cruise (and more importantly, shift points and idle control) work fine and have for years.
If you are using a different speedo corrector it may be putting too much resistance on the raw speedo signal for it to be read by the ECU. Just do some simple fault finding to work out your issue: 1. revert wiring to stock, see if cruise works. 2. if yes, leave speedo convertor out of circuit but connect ECU to feed pre-cluster, see if cruise works. 3. if yes, reconnect speedo convertor, see if cruise works. 4. if yes, do skids.

without the speedo corrector will the car drive ok from getting the gears done to home to do the corrector? or will it change gears to early and not drive properly

without the speedo corrector the car will drive spot on, except that the speedo will be out

I had 3.9's in mine and don't need speedo corrector. speedo is spot on k for k you need the right combination, speedo gear and trans solidnoid.
I run a corrector only for shift point change for when racing at the track to stop hitting limiter other then that it's off.

hmm, a little over $100 for a speedo corrector, OR have a special soleniod & speedo gear fitted to the box.....
the ECU is programmed to shift for a certain ratio, so as you said, you still need a speedo corrector for the box to shift properly? |

thats what i thought with the auto, that it would shift way to early as it would think were doin 75 when were really doin 55. il get the electronic one anyway, id get 3.9's but i tow a tool trailer for work which weights about 1200kg or so, so i think 4.11 would be the way to go
