Hi Mate.
I have put a T5 in my EB Wagon, and it is great. Remember that the gearbox does not change how much power your engine makes, it changes the way it is delivered. With the T5, you should have better accellaration due to the lower first gear ratio. The auto has quite a high first gear which makes it doughy off the line. Also be sure that you know what make the T5 comes from. EA to EB1 T5s have lower 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th ratios when compared to the EB11 to EL T5s. This is good or bad, depending on how you view it. I hope this helps. Cheers BenJ

Everyone here's gonna say go the manual.
But if your keen on Macca's, KK and driving, choose the Auto :)

i was told today that an auto will be faster than a manual?? im now really confused how can that be? i understand if i stuff up in a manual it will slow me down but are there any downsides at all apart from city driving

Yes, there are issues that can arise.
Firewall can crack, the pedal box can crack and bend, you can reach through the window and start the car thinking it is neutral when it's not, and it will drive away from you. BenJ

manual certainly makes the car go harder. I know when i had mine converted to manual it felt like a new car.
but having said that, alot of the times i just feel like taking it easy & cruising, and i kinda miss having the auto. in fact... if i had the skills to convert back to auto myself i probably would do it..... |

Only way an auto will be faster is if its got 4.11s under the bum. |

I like the auto's don't get me wrong, i love a T5 falcon, but with the right stall convertor and a good set of diff gears, 3.7+ you will kill a manual of the line ...
you can also have your auto rebuild be to stronger, (thats what i've done) and had a shift kit installed into the auto ... Laticia ..

Yeh, but what if the manual has 3.45s - 3.7s?
All things equal, the manual will be faster. |

manual with 3.7+ ? you will get too 30kph in first gear, you will pass the 1/4 in prob 5th as above with the right stall, and gears, i still think the auto will be quicker down the 1/4
I know my NL thats 400kg heavier than my friends EL XR6 5 speed, always beats it, maybe not off the mark, but i always get passed by about 80kph I just always get both wheels spinning of the mark ..

if you like to actually drive the car, go manual,
i enjoy driving my car so much more since the manual conversion, even just mildly spirited driving is so much better. driving a manual is just better, right gear when you want it, no waiting, etc, etc. a manual V's auto, yes the auto is "easier" to get off the line, but with some skill and some good tyres you can get the manual off the line on some very high revs. and even if the auto gets you off the line due to a screw up, chuck in a few corners and the auto is long gone. |

Mmmmmmm.. nah
Lets say your reving to 5k rpm before changing gears. T5 + 3.23 rear end. 1st = 58 2nd = 95 T5 + 3.45 rear end. 1st = 55 2nd = 88 T5 + 3.7 rear end. 1st = 50 2nd = 84 Wheres your 30km out of first come in? |
