Hi Guys, hoping for some advice.
I bought an AU series 3 Falcon a few weeks ago. This morning (getting chilli) the gearbox wouldn't engage drive. Went to accelerate and the engine revved like it was in neutral. Backed it down to 3rd gear, nothing, back up to park, went into park okay, back down to drive, nothing, then down to 1st gear and hooray it engaged. I put it back into drive and was away. This was the first time this has noticeably occurred, but thinking back, it did do it once before. Also, first thing in the morning, but I didn't pay attention to it, thinking I just hadn't quite selected drive and it went when I had a second go at it. The gearbox is really quite smooth while driving and haven't noticed any issues later in the day. Just first thing in the morning at this stage. 150ks on it. Thoughts? I checked the fluid level the other day. No noticeable leaks. I'll do the same again tomorrow. Other possibilities? |

has the trans ever been serviced in the 150k?
either its low on oil, or it could have a clogged filter, pump problem or sealing rings have gone hard. servicing the trans could possibly help it out, but it may be due for a rebuild if it keeps happening. The oil should just trickle out of the filler plug if its at the correct level but if the oil is brown or black, it is well overdue for a service. |

I was going to say low fluid aswell.
Get the gearbox not just drained, but FLUSHED asap and add a external transmission cooler. Heat and old fluid kill these boxes. Might cost you $300 but will be worth it.

Auto service time, probably low on oil. Is it OK once it warms up?

Mine has the same issue and im pretty sure its fluid level. Does anyone know any decent auto places on the northside of Brisbane that are expeienced in more than just wallet flushing?

to the OP, imo the gearbox is stuffed !!!
i had a BTR that was fitted by people who didnt think flaring the cooler lines was necessary, which resulted a s**t of oil ending up on the highway, and me trying to limp the car to the nearest servo after that event the car would randomly free rev in either drive or reverse or both when initially selcting the gear. But once you got it to go, it would drive perfect for the rest of the trip. |
